Sometimes it is easy to get so focused on what my oldest needs to learn in homeschool that I forget those preschool basics her younger siblings would enjoy learning. My little ones are pretty good at speaking up and reminding me though. They were all excited when we received a review item just for them and not big sister. We had the opportunity to review Time4Learning Preschool, a computer-based learning environment.
I received accounts for Joseph, age 5, Emma, age 4, and Daniel, age 2 years 5 months. There are two preschool levels and I had my children focus on PreK 1, which looks like this:
What you cannot see is that this page scrolls down and reveals two more rows of boxes. Each box is a topic the child can click on. Inside the topic the child will find a selection of activities to choose from, including:
- Storybooks
- Match It game
- Patterns
- Find It game
- Memory Match card game
- Which is Which? identification game
- and more.
As the child completes an activity, a check mark appears over the icon. The child can still play again if desired.
What we liked most about Time4Learning Preschool is that the program speaks to the child, explaining how to play and naming all things they scroll over. They do not need to be able to read independently. The activities were fun. The PreK 2 level covered similar themes in more depth.
My 2 year old was able to use this program on his own once he got the hang of using the mouse. He sat on mommy’s lap each time, but I did not need to do anything but enjoy the time watching him play and explore. My 4 and 5 year old were completely independent and both enjoyed playing on their turns. There is also a playground area with games, but my children never accessed it because they were busy having fun with the learning activities.
What we did not like:
- The Cost ~ Time4Learning costs $19.95 a month for the first child account and $14.95 for each additional child every month. That, for us, is too expensive, especially knowing there are levels available through 8th grade, so my older child would want a subscription as well. It would cost $64.80 a month for my 4 older children.
- It’s Computer-Based ~ Children, especially young children, do not need to spend time sitting still at a computer to learn. They need to move. We try to learn as a family, in an active way, for as many subjects as we can. We do not need another computer-based activity.
You can learn more and try free demos from the Time4Learning website.
Be sure to check out my crewmates’ reviews to see what they think of Time4Learning Preschool.
{Disclaimer: I received a free temporary subscription to Time4Learning Preschool to enable our family to review it. I received no other compensation and all opinions presented herein are my own.}

LOL! I loved reading your post ,My kids too hardly ever visit the playground either!!!! They are just having to much Fun with the assignments ;)
We personally have 2 accts but that is mainly because of the huge age gap (dd is 8yrs & son is 3 yrs) But,honestly if i had children so close in age as you do i would just buy maybe 1 or 2 accts..because you can access 3 grades at once..so you could share the accts in theory ..Just an Idea :)
another idea is buy in advance..If you buy at least 3 months in advance you will get like $5 off a month..
Anyways i just wanted to share some ideas with you..I too understand money being tight,But i hate for you all to not be able to use http://www.Time4Learning.com because you were not aware of this option :)
