My family received access to the KinderBach Online Learning Center to review as a part of our journey with the TOS Homeschool Crew. For those unfamiliar with the company, KinderBach offers music lesson for young children ages 3-7.
In the KinderBach Learning Center families receive access to the following:
- Video lessons to watch online. There are 6 levels (more than 240 lessons) currently available. The videos include a mix of
- Downloadable PDF pages that are integral to the program. The student uses these pages during lessons to color, learn, and play music. The downloads include crafts to use as well.
- A downloadable parent guide that explains the six areas of music development and basic music theory.
What does KinderBach teach the student? A lot! One thing that really struck me was that KinderBach is a music course, not just a piano course. My children have been learning rhythms, high and low sounds, the names of notes and where to find them on a piano, and music terminology. It is all done with short little videos, music, and fun. You can read the Kinderbach Curriculum Outline here for more information.
You can sign up for free access to the first two weeks of lessons online here to try KinderBach firsthand. There is a wonderful introductory video that explains the program more, with video clips and more. If you are considering the free trial I suggest you take a peek at the video on this page first. It will give you a wonderful idea of what to expect in the free trial lessons.
My middle children have enjoyed KinderBach the most. Joseph age 6, Emma age 5, and Daniel age 3 are all working together. They watch the videos, moving, jumping, walking and dancing along. It is active, which make it work well for my energetic boys. Oliver, who is just barely 2, has not really learned anything from KinderBach, though he likes some of the songs. Makayla, who is 9, has been taking piano lessons for 6 months. She says it’s definitely for younger children, but I’ve found it to be a good review for her. I put her in charge of running the videos for her siblings.
What does it cost? KinderBach has several options for purchase or subscription. The online subscription our family tried out can be bought two ways:
- A one year subscription for $95.88. This is the most cost effective of the two, a single payment that works out to only $7.99 a month.
- Monthly billing for $19.99 per month. This means the same 1 year subscription would cost $239.88. However, if you only want a month or two of KinderBach for a child on the older end of the age range, who could go through the program quickly, this option may be what you’re looking for.
KinderBach also can be bought on DVD in a variety of packages (from 1 level to all 6, and several in between options. Learn more about those choices here. For our family the DVD option would be more economical due to the ability to reuse the levels for younger children down the road.
Be sure to check out my Crewmates’ reviews to learn more about how KinderBach worked for their families.
