Easy Lunchboxes–The Eco-Friendly Lunch Box + Giveaway!

100_5665One day’s lunch at our house.

There are lots of lunches going on at my house with six children home every day.  We like to take our lunch to the picnic table in the backyard during the nice weather months of the year. We’re a food allergy family so we also need to bring our own food on outings.  One frustration I’ve found in the process is that things get smashed – be it sandwiches or snacks.

Another is the endless line of plastic baggies that it takes to carry food for eight people.  Really, it’s a big mess with all the baggies.  When I found Easy Lunchboxes online I knew I wanted to buy some for my family.  I approached the company about a review opportunity here on Our Busy Homeschool in tandem with a discount for my own purchase and they have been wonderful to work with!  They are even sponsoring a giveaway – keep reading for details on how to enter.

The Easy Lunchbox system of containers look like this: 4 containersEach container has three sections, one large compartment that holds approximately 2.5 Cups, and two smaller ones holding 3/4 cup and 1/2 cup.  A sturdy BPA-free, FDA-approved, food-safe plastic, these containers have held up to my brood quite well.  They’re even dishwasher safe.  The lids fasten securely but the compartments are not designed to hold liquids without possible leaks (think soup).  LunchBagAndColorsYou can also purchase lunch bag coolers made specifically to fit the Easy Lunchboxes.  The coolers are vinyl-free and insulated, with enough room for up to three containers, and come in Black, Dark Red, Olive, Purple and Aqua.  We chose Aqua for ours.

We’ve used our eco-friendly lunch boxes many times, including on a recent trip to the zoo.  Here is what we packed that day: 100_5687All of those fit easily into three coolers, which fit underneath our double stroller while we visited the animals.  A few hours later we stopped at some picnic tables to eat. 100_5751 Thanks to Easy Lunchboxes everyone’s food was ready to go – without baggies flying around in the breeze!  100_5752Of course, another great thing about the containers was when Oliver decided playing was more important than eating lunch – all we had to do was put the lid back on and return it to the cooler for later.

Easy Lunchboxes come as a set of 4 containers (4 lids and 4 bottoms) for $13.95.  The coolers are $7.95 each.  You can see this product in action on their YouTube channel

Want to win a set?  Easy Lunchboxes is offering one winner a container set and one lunch bag (winner can choose color). Retail value is $21.90.  This giveaway ends at 6:00am on Saturday, May 21st, 2011.  Please be sure I can contact you via email or another winner will be chosen.

Mandatory Entry: Visit the Easy Lunchboxes site and leave a comment telling me something you learned.

Extra Entries (please leave a separate comment for each entry!):

  • Watch one of their YouTube videos and leave a comment telling me which one you watched.
  • Follow Our Busy Homeschool with Google Friend Connect or through email for an entry.
  • Tell me what your family’s favorite lunch is in a comment.

This giveaway is offered to US & Canadian residents only. Please do not enter this giveaway if you have won or received free product from EasyLunchboxes within the past 3 months.

{Disclaimer: I received a discount on my purchase in exchange for a review.  All opinions presented herein are my own.} EasyLunchBoxes_200x280** I was so happy with Easy Lunchboxes that I am now an affiliate.  If you make a purchase through any of the links in this post or my sidebar I will receive a small percentage of the sale.  My grocery budget thanks you! **

I love the fact that they are BPA-free. I worry about using plastics, but these look A-OK to use!

I've seen some containers where the sides in between the compartments don't come up high enough and you end up with crumbs from your sandwich all over your potato salad! These look like that wouldn't happen - can you answer to whether the inner sides come up to meet the lid? (I understand that they are not liquid proof though!)

Diana said...

Our favorite to-go lunch is turkey or roast beef sandwiches. As boring as it sounds, its a common favorite. Although I usually pack all my sandwich making separate because I don't like a soggy sandwich. So I'll either put stuff in little baggies or layer them between paper towel in a plastic container.

These Easy Lunchboxes look like they are big enough to hold the bread & some of the fixins all in the big compartment. Score! :D

I follow you using Google Reader - does that count?

But I'm following you using the Friend Connect now too! :D

Diana - yep, the sides between each compartment meet the lid!

I learned a handy hint from the website that to remove odors from a lunch box you place inside a slice of bread that has been soaked in white distilled vinegar and leave in overnight. I'm always looking for new organizing tools and helpful hints. By the way, I've been getting your blog emailed to me for about a month and I love it!! I have 3 homeschooled kids - ages 16, 12 and 2 years old. Thanks so much for sharing such great ideas!

I see that the lids are not super tight fitting, easier for little fingers to open - I do like the BPA freeness of them. Did you have a problem with leakage (I see peaches in a photo)??

Hi, I've been having your blog emailed to my yahoo account (does that count?) for about a month now and I love it!! I homeschool my 3 children - ages 16, 12 and 2. I love organizing and helpful hints which is why I hope to win this giveaway :) I learned a new hint from the Easy Lunchbox website: to remove odors from a lunch box place inside a slice of bread that has been soaked in white distilled vinegar and leave in overnight. Thanks so much!

Although I know adults benefit from eating healthy lunches too, it was nice to see them mentioned on the website. I also love that they are BPA free.

Our favorite picnic lunch is turkey wraps. We put turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, and broccoli with a little dash of Italian dressing in a wrap and roll it up. Of course, the toddler picks hers apart and eats everything separately :)

On the website they bring out several good points. Its so much healthier to pack a lunch.I dont work outside the home but I do find we tend to buy unhealthy foods while we are out and about and kiddos get hungry. These would be great for packing snacks!

I've wanted these SO BAD since I saw you post about them on your birthday/zoo trip, but after putting 2 sets of containers plus 2 coolers in my "cart" I just couldn't afford them. I looked EVERYWHERE for a coupon discount with no luck, but figured come the new school year there'd be something... so I held out. Now I'm just holding my breath that I get this!

I love that these containers are BPA Free and that they stack neatly on top of each other since space saving space is big for us here!

Cherie said...

I watched this video http://www.youtube.com/user/EasyLunchboxes#p/c/DDCA888165FDF65E/3/Y615JKSn8TI. This mom displays all the different lunches she used to highlight the foods of children around the world for her son.

Cherie said...

Our favorite lunch is actually a funny subject. At our house meals are swapped so we eat dinner in the middle of the day and have snacks later on. One of our favorite "lunch/dinners" is a baked sweet potato topped with black beans, corn, diced tomato, and a wedge of laughing cow cheese. It'd look awfully pretty in these containers and make it easy to take our strange habits on the go!

I visited the Easy Lunchboxes site and learned that the lids are kid friendly. The seal is tight enough to hold the food in, but loose enough so the kids don't struggle to get the lid off. I appreciate that because too many times kids end up with the lunch on the lap or flying due to tight lids.

Wow, these look SO COOL!!! I wish I had had these years ago. I still have 5 kids at home. These neato containers would make lunch so much easier. I love how simple they would make time out and about without the temptation to "eat out" Now I am going to go learn more about them. Thanks!!
